In January, Canada celebrates New Year’s Day and also marks the birthday of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. with a national holiday. Preschool learning environments could be created around these events by incorporating themes of new beginnings, resolutions, and diversity. For New Year’s Day, children could create vision boards or set goals for the upcoming year. For Martin Luther King Jr. Day, children could learn about different cultures and celebrate diversity through art projects and storytelling. Potential preschool lesson plan ideas for these events could include teaching children about the concept of time and the calendar, as well as discussing the importance of equality and social justice. Activities could include creating a class calendar, learning about different cultures and traditions, and discussing ways to promote kindness and respect towards others
