January in New Zealand is a time for summer holidays and outdoor activities. One major event that takes place during this time is the Wellington Anniversary Day, which is celebrated on the third Monday of January. Another significant event is the Auckland Anniversary Day, which is celebrated on the Monday closest to January 29th. Preschool learning environments that could be created around these events could include outdoor play areas with water play activities, sandboxes, and picnic areas. Teachers could also incorporate cultural activities and crafts related to the celebrations, such as making traditional Maori kites or creating artwork inspired by the city’s landmarks. Potential preschool lesson plan ideas could include learning about the history and significance of the Wellington and Auckland Anniversary Days, exploring the natural environment of New Zealand through outdoor activities, and introducing children to Maori culture and traditions. Teachers could also incorporate literacy and numeracy skills through activities such as counting and sorting seashells or creating stories about the adventures of a kite
