1. Inauguration Day on January 20th marks the beginning of a new presidential term in the United States. 2. Martin Luther King Jr. Day on January 18th honors the civil rights leader’s legacy and contributions to American society. Preschool learning environments could be created around these events by incorporating themes of leadership, equality, and democracy. For example, a classroom could have a “presidential corner” with books about past presidents and a mock voting booth for students to practice their civic duties. Another corner could be dedicated to Martin Luther King Jr. with books and activities that promote diversity and inclusion. Potential preschool lesson plan ideas for Inauguration Day could include learning about the role of the president and the importance of voting. Students could create their own campaign posters and give speeches about what they would do if they were president. For Martin Luther King Jr. Day, lesson plans could focus on his life and teachings, as well as the importance of treating others with kindness and respect. Activities could include creating a “peace quilt” or writing letters to local leaders about issues that are important to them
