In June, the Philippines celebrates Independence Day on June 12th and the end of Ramadan with Eid al-Fitr. Independence Day commemorates the country’s declaration of independence from Spain in 1898, while Eid al-Fitr marks the end of the month-long fasting period of Ramadan for Muslims. Preschool learning environments could be created around these events by incorporating Filipino culture and history into the classroom. Teachers could decorate the classroom with Philippine flags and symbols, and introduce traditional Filipino games and songs to the children. They could also read stories about the country’s struggle for independence and the importance of cultural diversity. Potential preschool lesson plan ideas could include teaching children about the Philippine flag and its symbolism, introducing them to traditional Filipino foods and clothing, and teaching them about the different religions and cultures present in the country. Teachers could also organize a field trip to a local Filipino community center or museum to further immerse the children in the culture and history of the Philippines
