In May, Australia celebrates National Reconciliation Week and National Sorry Day. National Reconciliation Week is a time to celebrate and build relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians, while National Sorry Day is a day of remembrance and apology for the mistreatment of Indigenous Australians. Preschool learning environments could be created around these events by incorporating Indigenous art and culture into the classroom. This could include displaying artwork, reading stories, and singing songs that celebrate Indigenous culture. Teachers could also invite Indigenous elders or community members to speak to the children about their culture and history. Potential preschool lesson plan ideas could include learning about Indigenous animals and their habitats, creating artwork inspired by Indigenous art, and learning about the history of Indigenous Australians and the importance of reconciliation. Children could also participate in activities that promote empathy and understanding, such as role-playing scenarios where they learn to apologize and make amends for their actions
