In August, the United States celebrates National Aviation Day on August 19th, which commemorates the birthday of Orville Wright, one of the pioneers of aviation. Additionally, August 26th is Women’s Equality Day, which marks the anniversary of the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution, granting women the right to vote. Preschool learning environments could be created around these events by incorporating activities that focus on aviation and women’s history. For National Aviation Day, children could participate in activities such as building paper airplanes, learning about different types of planes, and exploring the science of flight. For Women’s Equality Day, children could learn about important women in history, such as suffragettes and other trailblazers, and participate in activities that promote gender equality and empowerment. Potential preschool lesson plan ideas for National Aviation Day could include reading books about airplanes and aviation, creating paper airplanes and testing them for distance and speed, and exploring the science of flight through experiments and demonstrations. For Women’s Equality Day, lesson plan ideas could include reading books about important women in history, discussing the importance of gender equality and diversity, and creating art projects that celebrate women’s achievements and contributions to society
